Asa Broomhall - Jangle House

Australia's own Rock/Roots larrikin, Asa Broomhall has given us his 5th independent album, ‘Jangle House.’ Recorded in an iconic old Guitar Shop in Brisbane over the Easter 2011 break, ‘Jangle House’ was truly a labour of love. Recording in a historically musical place was just one reason for creating this album. Asa's brother's house, where previous albums had been recorded/mixed and where the studio was located, was consumed by the January 2011 floods, and was subsequently condemned and demolished. Furthermore the album was mixed and overdubs were laid down in a number of temporary home studios. Combine this with the sound of the Guitar Shop that can only be described as an old house full of guitars, you start to get a sense for the album and its title; ‘Jangle House.’

Despite the numerous recording and mixing environments, ‘Jangle House’ retains the polish of modern albums with the added charm of traditional releases recorded with a 'live' feel. This album began as a challenge and became a triumph with 10 full band tracks of Rock/Folk and Blues songs and a version of Marley's classic, ‘Waiting in Vain.’

On stage, Asa's powerful guitar driven songs and dynamic live show has taken him from clubs and festivals all over Australia to touring with national and international artists and regularly performing in the UK, USA and Canada. And with 5 independent and self-produced releases and 12 years of shows under his belt, Asa's dedication to his music and his live show is obvious.

If you fancy Rock, Folk and Blues with a dose of mischief, make sure you hear Asa's music and experience one of Australia’s best independent artists, whether it be Solo Acoustic or fronting his Powerful Trio, the Asa Broomhall Band.

About

Asa grew up on a small farm in the hinterland behind Noosa on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. He took up Harmonica at age 11 and Guitar at age 12, by the age of 14 he was singing. Growing up in a musical household in a rural setting meant music and its stories became an unshakable passion.

He finished High School and like almost all of the kids from the class of 95, headed to the city to go to University. He studied 4 years of Medical Engineering to satisfy his love for mechanical things but found himself writing songs during the degree and by the time he graduated, was playing solo at a few venues and party's. Being a fine ambassador for tertiary education he decided to pursue a career in music and after recording a few Demo CD's was gigging around Brisbane most weekends.

His first release was a self titled 7 track Live EP (Jan 2003) that reflected the powerful and dynamic nature of his live solo shows, closely followed by his first album; Outside (Sept 2004). Outside showcased the production skills of his sound engineer brother; Jacob and fooled many into thinking it was created in a professional studio rather than in the inner city house where they were both living. Travel and surfing forced a long break before the next release; Homemade (Mar 2007) which took self-produced to a new level as Asa played/recorded almost all of the instruments on the album and even did the artwork. For the acclaimed album; Revelry Road, Asa, Jacob and his band; Zoltan Campbell (Bass) and Chris O’Neill (Drums) created a temporary studio in the farm house where he grew up and recorded over 5 days. The result was an album of amazing lyrical and musical depth. It also featured some of SE Qlds finest musicians on instruments such as Cello and Piano and an appearance on Guitar by one of Australia’s most revered artists; Mark Lizotte (Diesel).

Asa 5th independent self-funded and self-produced release; ‘Jangle House’, Recorded in an iconic old Guitar Shop in Brisbane over the Easter 2011 break was truly a labour of love. Countless gigs, concerts, radio and tv appearances, festivals and tours have seen Asa share the stage with the likes of Diesel, Hoodoo Gurus, Chris Whitley, Ian Moss, Chris Smither, Jeff Martin, Mark Seymour, Ash Grunwald, Busby Marou, Kelly Joe Phelps to name a few and regular performances in the UK, Canada and the States.
